2019 Watauga Lake Triathlon Training

Watauga Lake Triathlon – Getting Started – 1st Week

There’s now 24 weeks until the Watauga Lake Triathlon. I’m sore, moreover, my legs are’t functioning properly when I walk. It’s embarrassing, because all I managed this week was:

You can also throw in 4 dog walks a day for somewhere between 6 and 9 miles daily.

Thursday, Meniere’s Disease hit me with a dizzy spell that kept me in bed all day.

Long Range Goals for 2020

There are four century bike rides on my bucket list of must do events in the mountains of North Carolina. Three I’ve managed to do twice already.

Leaving the Assault on Mt. Mitchell as my remaining long overdue challenge. It’s a 102.7 mile ride from downtown Spartanburg, SC to the summit of Mt. Mitchell State Park in NC. I’m thinking May 2020 looks like a great opportunity to check it off.

I’d also like to do the NC 70.3 Ironman again for my 65th birthday challenge next year; however, I’m just not sure my right knee is up to the 13.1 mile run segment. I’ll have a better idea what’s up after this year’s Watauga Lake Triathlon in August.

The Assault on Mt. Mitchell is nine months after the Watauga Lake Triathlon and five months before the NC Half-Ironman. That’s enough time to be competitive in my age group next year. I like it!

Getting Started – Week Two Outlook

This week’s weather forecast sucks. Rain, cold, snow, real cold, more snow, less cold, more rain. It looks like a good week to get a lot of swimming in.

Hopefully your outlook for the first week of March is sunnier than mine.

Peace… Ed
